Dell Computer Complaint
Dell computer problems and used hard drive - INSPIRON 17 5000 and 1764
I had ordered my second Dell Computer a Inspiron 17 5000 series touch screen. My first dell laptop was a 4 year old Dell 1764 and according to Dell%u2019s web site the hard drive was not functioning correctly. I also decided to purchase a new hard drive from Dell for the old computer as a backup.
The new computer and hard drive arrived I installed the new hard drive in the old Dell 1764 and upon installation I noticed windows 7 was already installed on this hard drive along with a burnin test icon, a control prompt icon on the desktop and this in the upper right hand corner of the desktop in bright yellow CDQCL20DSC What ever this is? I had purchased from Dell what I thought to be a new hard drive and did not understand why all this was on the hard drive,I thought it would come blank, maybe something new at Dell? I tried to run the Dell Recovery Disk but it would not download, there was no internet and I did not know what to do nothing would work on this old computer. So why not use the new Dell? Well the new Dell worked somewhat keyboard numbers 5 and 6 worked but nothing else in that line so I call Dell. Bad keyboard will ship overnight you will get it Saturday, it came Monday, I replaced it myself. So in talking with the technician I brought up the hard drive issue and if Dell installed all these programs prior to selling their hard drives, his response was he could not that talk about that because old computer warranty was expired so he could not talk about the new hard drive. WOW. He told me I would have to take it to a local technician. So I went to a local technician, $75.00 later and after the local technician worked on the computer he tells me there were 5 viruses 2 malware and 10 adware on this %u201CNEW%u201D hard drive which was the reason I could not download the Dell recovery disk. Now the computer is working I can access the internet and all drivers are loaded. So I call Dell regarding this %u201CNEW%u201D hard drive they sold me, talked with five people same story over and over and over again well I can%u2019t help you let me transfer you. One technician assured me it was Impossible for Dell to send out a hard drive that was not blank. One told me Dell sells two types of hard drives new and refurbished (or maybe he said repaired don%u2019t remember exactly). One said they looked up the order and I definitely received a new hard drive. No one could tell me how a new hard drive could have all this crap on it in fact they said it was impossible. That is comforting. Dell must have some really spectacular quality control. So what was Dell going to do to help me? Well I could send in this hard drive which cost me $75.00 to get fixed and they would send me another %u201CNEW%u201D one, really??? This was one of their new ones which only cost me another $75.00 to get it operational. This was my only option. Thank You Dell. Never again.
